Date: Monday, March 10, 2025 from 11 am - 4 pm
Presented by: Marie Martin, PhD, CSPHP and Brooke Cates Jaynes, RN
This interactive workshop is designed to guide participants through the essential process of incorporating Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) principles into the renovation or construction of healthcare facilities. Participants will gain practical insights into the various phases of construction and planning, learn to navigate the differences between leased and owned spaces, and understand the distinctions between design-build and design-bid-build contracts.
Key concepts such as the Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) will be introduced, and attendees will work through sample projects at different design and construction stages to explore how SPHM equipment can be integrated effectively. The workshop will also include engaging exercises, such as reviewing vendor-provided resources and utilizing live equipment to evaluate a mockup of a sample room design (if available).
Workshop Objectives:
• Identify the phases of planning, design, construction, and activation where SPHM input can enhance outcomes.
• Recognize valuable resources to help SPHM professionals incorporate best practices into patient care construction projects.
• Analyze construction plans for potential safety concerns.
• Decide and Communicate strategies for incorporating SPHM into real-world construction projects.
